In 1993, the LA Chapter began the practice of honoring an outstanding chapter member and providing an opportunity for individuals to receive deserved recognition and support from their peers. The recipient of this Award is announced at the final quarterly meeting of the operating year.
The first “Member of the Year” was awarded posthumously to Jim Allen who passed away on September 19, 1993. Jim was a loyal member having served on the LA Chapter Board of Directors for several years, as well as serving on various committees. He was active in the Southern Region program, and attended many International conferences. As a tribute to Jim, the “Member of the Year” award became known as the Allen Award.
